Derek has lived in the area for 12 years, but has been a cottager in the ward for close to 40. Active in the community, he has volunteered for the White Lake Property Owners' Association for seven years as vice president, Cottage Watch director and recreational director. He was a past member of the firefighters' fundraising committee and was involved with the United Way while employed with the Ottawa Police Service. In 2005 he was appointed to the Lanark Highlands' Police Services Board, which he currently sits on as vice chair. Derek has worked in the public service sector since he was 20 years old, retiring in 2005 from a 31-year policing career that included the role of staff sergeant. This gave him experience in management practices, staff administration, operational management and overseeing large budgets. Derek is married to Nancy and has three daughters.

Ken retired as an RCMP superintendent in 2005 with 30 years of experience. Early in his career he worked throughout Ontario, including Brockville and Kingston detachments, which covered the Lanark area. In his last 15 years in the RCMP he held management assignments in the administration offices at Toronto, London and Ottawa that included both finance and human resources. After moving to the Watson's Corners area, Ken became actively involved in the local community hall and the Lanark library board. Since retiring, he has been actively involved in a forest management project on two 100-acre parcels of land. With the constant growth in Lanark Highlands, Ken plans to work with council to help sustain the community lifestyle and improve economic conditions while planning for the expected growth. Ken and his wife Sharon have three grown children who live in London, Toronto and Kingston. They have three grandchildren.
