LANARK COUNTY OPP DETACHMENT WEEKLY NEWS

April 27 – May 4, 2020

(LANARK COUNTY, ON) – Between Monday, April 27 and Monday, May 4, 2020 officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 295 calls for service. 

The calls included:

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Total: 9               Including:

Single Motor Vehicle off Road (“in ditch”): 3

A 24 year old resident of Tay Valley Township has been charged following a single vehicle, rollover collision on Rogers Road in the Town of Perth on May 6, 2020 just before 9:30.  The driver was not injured and fled the scene, later located by officers from the Lanark County OPP.  The subsequent investigation resulted in charges of Failure to Remain and Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Impaired Drivers – 2

On May 1, 2020 just before 5:00 p.m. Carleton Place OPP were called regarding an erratic driver on Highway 7 near Innisville in Drummond-North Elmsley Township.  Officers patrolled and located the vehicle and stopped it.  The subsequent investigation resulted in the driver, Andrew REAVIE, age 32 of Addington Highlands Township, Ontario being arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Over 80 and Dangerous Operation.  The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of July 27, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.  His driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.

On May 3, 2020, just after 8j:30 p.m., Carleton Place OPP were called regarding a possible impaired driver on Townline Road in Beckwith Township.  Officers patrolled and located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  The subsequent investigation resulted in the driver, Kimberly THOMAS, age 39 of Perth, Ontario being arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired and Operation While Impaired – Over 80.  The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of July 6, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.  Her driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Domestic Incidents – 14

A verbal argument between former partners on April 27, 2020 at 9:30 p.m. resulted in Carleton Place OPP being called to a residence in the Town of Carleton Place.  The investigation by police resulted in the arrest and charge of a 32 year old resident of Carleton Place, Ontario for spousal assault.  The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of September 14, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.  The victim sustained minor injuries from the incident.

Lanark County OPP were called to a domestic in progress on April 28, 2020 just after 10:30 a.m. at a residence on Highway 43, in Drummond-North Elmsley Township.  Officers attended and spoke with both parties, conducting their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of a 40 year old resident of the home, with Spousal Assault and Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm.  The accused was later released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 27, 2020.  The victim sustained minor injuries from the incident.

A 35 year old resident of Tay Valley Township was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation, flight from Peace Officer and Failure to comply with Probation Order on April 28, 2020 after Lanark County OPP were called to a report of a vehicle doing “burnouts” in a business parking lot in the Town of Perth just after 9:30 p.m.

The accused fled from officers in a vehicle then on an ATV and then on foot.  He was located and arrested with the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team members.  The accused, who is also facing domestic-related offences in Leeds County, was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date for the Lanark charges on July 20, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Carleton Place OPP were called to a residence in the Town of Carleton Place on May 3, 2020, just before 3:00 p.m. regarding a domestic incident.  Officers attended and conducted their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of one of the residents for Assault, Choking and Uttering Threats against their spouse.  The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 6, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.  The victim had minor injuries from the incident.

An 18 year old resident of Tay Valley Township, Ontario has been arrested and charged with Intimidation – follow on a highway, Intimidation – blocks/obstructs a highway and Dangerous Operation following an incident on May 3, 2020 just before 7:30 p.m.  Lanark County OPP were called regarding a female being followed by a former domestic partner.  The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 27, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.  The accused cannot be identified in order to protect the victim.  There were no injuries resulted from this incident.

Break and Enters – 2

Officers from the Carleton Place OPP were called to a residence on Highfield Crescent in Beckwith Township, Ontario on April 27, 2020, regarding a break, enter and theft to a residential garage sometime between April 13 to 27.  A Champion 2500 generation, a racing speed jack and two walkie-talkie radios were taken.  Anyone with information regarding this theft or the whereabouts of the items is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Thefts – 8

Carleton Place OPP were advised on April 28, 2020, of a break-in and theft from a barn located on Highway 7 in Mississippi Mills Township sometime between April 3 and April 4.  Stolen were car tire rims valued at $2,500.  Anyone with information regarding this theft or the whereabouts of the items is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

A suspicious person at a residence in Drummond-North Elmsley Township around 11:30 a.m. on April 28, 2020 had the homeowner call the Lanark County OPP.  The suspicious person stated their car was stuck and they needed help.  Officers attended and conducted their investigation which showed the stuck vehicle to be stolen and resulted in the arrest and charge of Kenneth HUMPHREY, age 37 of Brantford, Ontario for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, Fraud Under $5,000 and Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Methylenedioxyaphetamine (Ecstasy).  The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice with a scheduled court date of July 6, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Liquor Licence Act Charges – 3

Not wearing seatbelts in Lanark Highlands Township on May 1, 2020 just before 1:00 p.m. resulted in a traffic stop by a member of the OPP SAVE (Snow machine, All-terrain, Vessel Enforcement) Unit.  The 52 year old driver from Arnprior, Ontario, was charged with having open liquor and for the passenger failing to property wear their seatbelt.

A request from by-law enforcement to the Lanark County OPP on May 2, 2020 around 2:30 p.m. regarding a group of belligerent people at a park in Mississippi Mills Township resulted in alcohol being seized from and a warning issued to a 52 year old, resident of McNab-Braeside Township, Ontario.

Mental Health - 7

Carleton Place OPP were called on May 1, 2020, just before 6:30 p.m. regarding threats via social media.  The subsequent investigation resulted in charges of Uttering Threats and Harassing Communication against Keith FENN, age 37, of Kanata, Ontario.   The accused was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of July 6, 2020, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
