LANARK COUNTY OPP DETACHMENT WEEKLY NEWS

February 3-10, 2020

(LANARK COUNTY, ON) – Between Monday, February 3 and Monday, February 10, 2020, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 355 calls for service. 

The calls included:

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Total: 30            Including:

Car / Deer: 3

Parking Lots: 5

Single Motor Vehicle off Road (“in ditch”): 9

Impaired Drivers – 1

An unwanted person call to police on February 4, 2020 in the Town of Carleton Place around 8:30 p.m. resulted in the arrest and charge of Roger DORION, age 57 of Gatineau, Quebec for Impaired Operation – Over 80.  The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of March 16, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Domestic Incidents – 10

On February 4, 2020, a parent called police after viewing a concerning video recording on their child’s electronic device.  The subsequent investigation by the Carleton Place OPP resulted in the arrest and charge of a 49 year old resident of Montague Township, Ontario with three counts of Uttering Death Threats.  The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of February 24, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Break and Enters – 3

Lanark County OPP were called to a business on Herriot Street in the Town of Perth on the morning of February 8, 2020 regarding a break, enter and theft at the location.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS to remain anonymous.

Thefts – 6

Between February 3-10, 2020, four of the six reported thefts in Lanark County were “thefts of gas” and one failure to pay for cab fare.

On February 3, 2020 just after 3:30 p.m., Lanark County OPP were called to a business on Highway 7 at Wilson Street regarding three people who had shoplifted and left the premises.  Officers attended and conducted their investigation.  A subsequent traffic stop resulted in the arrest and charge of all three people as follows:

  • Davinder Singh BRAR, age 47 of Caledon, Ontario was charged with Theft Under $5,000.  The accused was released on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of March 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in  Perth.
  • Surjit Singh SIDHU, age 35 of Brampton, Ontario was charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Failure to Comply with Undertaking.  The accused was released from custody on a Recognizance with a scheduled court date of March 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
  • Beant SINGH, age 27 of Brampton, Ontario was charged with Theft Under $5,000, Failure to Comply with Release Order and Failure to Comply with Probation Order.  The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing on February 4, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

On February 8, 2020 just before 6:00 p.m. two youth attended a business in Mississippi Mills Township and robbed the employee.  Carleton Place OPP attended and quickly identified the youths and arrests were made within a few hours.  Both youth, a 14 and a 15 year old are residents of Mississippi Mills Township, Ontario and were charged with Robbery with a Weapon.  The 14 year old was also charged with Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.  The youth were held for bail court the following morning at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Mischiefs – 4

Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in the Town of Perth on February 4, 2020 regarding a domestic situation at 4:30 a.m.  Officers attended and conducted their investigation which resulted in the charging of a 24 year old resident with Mischief.  The person was released on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date on February 24, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Just before 7:30 p.m. on February 5, 2020, Lanark County OPP received a 9-1-1 call from a residence in Tay Valley Township regarding a domestic situation.  Officers attended and after speaking with both parties, arrested and charged an 83 year old resident of the home with Mischief.  The accused was later released from custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of March 2, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Liquor Licence Act Charges - 0

Mental Health – 12

On February 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. officers from the OPP Repeat Offenders Parole Enforcement Unit (ROPE), arrested Tyler WARK, age 37 of Smiths Falls, Ontario at a resident in the Town of Perth, on an outstanding warrant.  The accused was also charged with Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine at the time of arrest.  The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing on February 10, 2020.

A 35 year old resident of Ottawa, Ontario was stopped and charged by Lanark OPP for speeding 44 kilometres over the posted limit on Highway 7 in Tay Valley Township on February 3, 2020 just after 7:30 p.m.
