LANARK COUNTY OPP DETACHMENT WEEKLY NEWS

January 13-20, 2020

(LANARK COUNTY, ON) – Between Monday, January 13 and Monday, January 20, 2020, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 313 calls for service. 

The calls included:

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Total: 35            Including:

Car / Deer: 10

Parking Lots: 6

Single Motor Vehicle off Road (“in ditch”): 7

Impaired Drivers – 2

Lanark County OPP attended a single vehicle in the ditch on January 15, 2020 around 11:00 p.m. after the collision was called in by a passing motorist.  The incident occurred on Country Road 29 in Mississippi Mills Township.  Further investigation resulted in the driver, Cassanda RICHARDS, age 27 of Mississippi Mills Township, Ontario being arrested and charged with Impaired Operation (Over 80).  The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of February 3, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

After a concerned motorist called Carleton Place OPP regarding a vehicle in the ditch on Ashton Station Road in Beckwith Township on January 16, 2020 just before 9:30 p.m., officers attended and conducted their investigation.  Joseph HANOSKI, age 40 of Ottawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Operation While Impaired – Over 80.  The accused was released from custody on an Appearance Notice for a scheduled court date of February 16, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Domestic Incidents – 6

Officers from the Carleton Place OPP received a 9-1-1 call from a residence in Mississippi Mills Township on January 17, 2020 just before midnight regarding a domestic dispute.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with the people involved and the subsequent investigation resulted in a charge of Mischief Under $5,000 for a 19 year old resident of Arnprior, Ontario.  The accused was assessed at hospital for minor injuries and released prior to the charge being laid.  She was released from police custody on an Undertaking with a scheduled court date of February 24, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

On January 18, 2020, officers from the Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in the Town of Perth regarding a domestic incident around 12:30 a.m.   A 30 year old resident of Perth, Ontario was charged with domestic assault and released on a Promise to Appear at a scheduled court date on February 10, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

Break and Enters - 0

Thefts – 5

Three of the five incidents of thefts reported between January 13-20, 2020 in Lanark County were “drive-offs” of gasoline.  There were no reports of thefts from vehicles.

Liquor Licence Act Charges – 2

On January 14, 2020 just before 7:30 p.m. officers from the Lanark County OPP and East Region SAVE Unit (Snow machines All Terrain Vehicle and Vessels Enforcement) were conducting a RIDE checkpoint in the Town of Perth.  During one vehicle stop officers observed open alcohol and charges were laid against both the driver, age 24 of Tay Valley Township, Ontario and the passenger, age 30 of Toronto, Ontario regarding the open liquor.
