News & Public Notices

The Township is advising residents that a Flood Warning has been issued for Dalhousie Lake and flood-prone areas along the Mississippi River, based on updated information from the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority.

This notice updates the Flood Watch issued on April 20, 2026. While Dalhousie Lake and downstream sections of the Mississippi River are now under a Flood Warning, upper lakes and major tributaries remain under a Flood Watch.

Current Conditions
Water levels and flows remain elevated across the watershed. Dalhousie Lake surpassed the 1:10 year flood threshold (157.50 masl) yesterday and continues to climb towards the 1:25 year flood threshold (157.80 masl) today, with current levels reaching 157.60 masl. The lake is expected to rise an additional 10 cm in the next 24 hours. Water levels and flows are expected to continue rising in the Mississippi River downstream of Dalhousie Lake. Residents in flood prone or low-lying areas historically susceptible to flooding should take the necessary precautions to protect their property.

Upper lakes, including Shabomeka, Mazinaw, Little Marble, Marble, Kashwakamak, Big Gull, and Mississagagon, have peaked and are expected to gradually recede. Major tributaries, including the Clyde, Fall, and Indian Rivers, are also receding toward seasonal levels.

Weather Outlook
Conditions are expected to remain generally dry this week, with less than 20 mm of rain forecast. Temperatures are expected to remain mild, with daytime highs between 10 and 15°C.

Risks

  • Fast-flowing water and unstable or slippery banks
  • Flooding impacts to roads, driveways, and low-lying properties

Actions for Residents
Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to:

  • Monitor water levels and conditions closely
  • Ensure sump pumps are functioning and have a backwater valve
  • Have a backup pump and generator available
  • Keep downspouts clear and directed away from structures
  • Secure outdoor items that could be carried away by rising water
  • Keep emergency contact numbers accessible
