Responsible Pet Ownership Helps Reduce Animal Control Calls

Animal control is one of the most common reasons residents contact the Township's By-law Enforcement contractor. Many of these calls involve dogs that are running at large or not under their owner's control.

Responsible pet ownership plays an important role in helping keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone. By following a few simple steps, dog owners can help reduce complaints and support a safer environment for residents, visitors, other pets, and wildlife.

How You Can Help

  • Keep your dog on a leash when in parks, beaches, on trails, along roads, and in other public spaces unless you are in a designated off-leash area.
  • Never allow your dog to run at large.
  • Keep your dog under your control at all times.
  • Ensure your dog is licensed and wears a current Township dog tag.

Licensing your dog not only helps the Township meet the requirements of its Animal Control By-law, but also increases the chances of a lost dog being quickly reunited with its owner.

Working together through responsible pet ownership helps reduce animal control calls and keeps our parks, trails, roads, and neighbourhoods safe and welcoming for everyone.
