Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting a prolonged period of dangerously hot and humid weather for our area.
A multi-day heat event is expected to bring daytime temperatures of 34–36°C, with humidex values reaching the low-to-mid 40s. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain between 21–24°C, providing little relief from the heat.
These conditions can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, and those working or exercising outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Drink plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Stay in air-conditioned buildings or cool, shaded areas whenever possible.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.
- Check in on neighbours, friends, and family members who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
- Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
If you or someone else experiences symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, confusion, or loss of consciousness, move to a cool place immediately, drink water if able, and seek medical attention.
