Starting October 1, 2022, the Mississippi Valley and Rideau Valley Conservation Authorities are
working together to provide septic approval services to additional municipalities in the local
area, including the Township of Lanark Highlands.
Formerly serviced by the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, several municipalities
have now turned to their conservation authorities to provide this service. The Mississippi Valley
and Rideau Valley Conservation Authorities have been providing septic review and approval
services in the City of Ottawa and Tay Valley Township for over 25 years and have experienced
staff to support this increased service area.
Forms, fees, frequently asked questions, and other sewage system resources are available for
landowners and contractors at www.rvca.ca/septic-approvals.
Applications for systems being installed or replaced in the Township of Lanark Highlands
can be directed to the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority office for processing.
Digital forms can be emailed to or paper copies can be delivered to the MVCA
head office at 10970 Highway 7, Carleton Place on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Inquiries
can also be made via email to or by calling 613-253-0006.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit will carry out all inspection work for permits
received or extended on or before September 30, 2022. Property owners who have previously
submitted a septic permit prior to September 30, will continue to have their application overseen
by the Health Unit. Health Unit permits will be valid for one year from the date of issuance, no
later than the end of 2023.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to
working with you.
