Pesticide Use

The Township of Lanark Highlands intends to utilize Wagar & Corput Weed Control Inc. to control weeds along rural roadsides within the Township.

The spraying will occur on pre-selected municipal roads within the Township of Lanark Highlands.

The Contractor will be using the following pesticides registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada): ClearView Herbicide (Reg #29752), containing the active ingredients Metsulfuron-methyl and Aminopyralid (present as potassium salt), and Gateway Adjuvant (Reg #31470), containing the active ingredients Paraffinic Oil and Alkoxylated alcohol non-ionic surfactants.

This pesticide use falls under the exception to the cosmetic pesticides ban mentioned in subsection 7.1 (2) of the Pesticides Act for uses related to the promotion of public health or safety.

Commencing: Approx. June 19 through July 28, 2023 (weather permitting).

For information regarding targeted spot spraying of weeds, including details of the specific road sections and how they will be treated, visit the Township of Lanark Highlands website at www.lanarkhighlands.ca. These lists outline the control method to be used, which include targeted spot spraying, hand removals and no spray zones.

Council passed a by-law at its regular meeting Tuesday evening to hire Christina Beaushaw as the Township’s new Treasurer, beginning June 12.

Beaushaw brings over 20 years of experience in progressively senior positions within the local government sectors. Her most recent position with the Township of Stone Mills as the Manager of Finance/Treasurer. Prior to 2011, she held positions as Treasurer/Tax Collector with the Township of Frontenac Islands and Deputy Treasurer-Asset Coordinator with the Township of Central Frontenac.

Beaushaw brings a wide range of Treasury experience to the Township, including legislative requirements, strategic capital asset plans, tangible capital assets coordination, audits, budget analysis and preparation, project management, policy development, grant submission and reporting, taxation, and accounting. She also has experience with labour negotiations and liaising with various levels of government. She has a three-year Business Administration Diploma in Accounting, Executive Diploma in Municipal Management, Diploma in Municipal Administration and numerous certificates in financial administration, taxation, and payroll.

Council and staff were pleased to welcome Ms. Beaushaw to the Lanark Highlands team, and they look forward to working with her. “I am happy to be joining the Township of Lanark Highlands,” Beaushaw said. “I'm looking forward to this opportunity.”

Recreation Advisory Committee Pickleball Survey
 
The Recreation Advisory Committee is currently composed of 4 community members and 1 council representative. Recently, the Committee has been approached by several residents inquiring about pickleball in the area. Currently the Committee is wondering how many people would be interested in joining a pickleball league and if not what other activities or programs would you like to see the Recreation Advisory Committee investigate and endorse.
