The Happy Wanderer - Art Exhibition at MERA

The Happy Wanderer features the work of Meed Barnett.

Meed Barnett is a fourth-generation artist and craftsperson, who could hold brushes before she could hold a fork.

Born in Greenwich Village, New York City, she was taken to Woodstock, New York at age 4, where she grew up surrounded by the art and influence of many fine painters who were working in the Woodstock area at that time.

Meed is a recent immigrant to Canada and now calls the Carriageway Studios in Almonte her creative space.

Working with many medias, Meed draws from an extensive collection of life experiences and memories. Many of her works express love for her native Catskill Mountains, particularly the Kaaterskill Clove, home of the Hudson River School.

She also makes wearable art in copper, brass, and sterling.

As an artist, she is feral—not to be tied down to one style, medium or artistic philosophy. Meed is attracted mostly to nature, or things reverting to nature, like ruins of old structures. The medium and palette are chosen to best convey the subject, and her ideas about it.

Her studio is an ever-expanding olio of objects and curiosities awaiting new life in one of her constructions. Frames for flat work are chosen to enhance specific paintings. They don’t have to match! At Meed’s shows, you never know what you will see. Come and be surprised!
