A statement from Reeve McLaren regarding Lanark Highlands and Covid-19

Monday, 23 March 2020

Dear Residents;

The Township of Lanark Highlands recognizes the challenges that we are all facing currently. I am proud of our community for taking early and decisive action in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Township has activated its Community Control Group. This ensures that we have all available expertise at the table to guide the municipality through this situation and ensure that residents are informed. We are committed to being a source of factual information that is derived from relevant and reliable sources.

As a municipality, we continue to support all levels of government and the local Health Unit. We are committed in our resolve to follow their expertise and guidance. We are thankful for the front-line workers, especially those that live in our community and face this head on, day in and day out.

I strongly encourage we support our local businesses at any time, but especially right now, it is more important than ever.

I would also encourage you to look out for our vulnerable residents and seniors. Call your neighbors. There may be people who need assistance in some way but are unable to help themselves. They may need medication, food or other supplies, but have no way to get them.

Finally, I am confident that residents can rely on the Township in this time of need. We have plans in place to ensure that residents can count on the Township for the services they depend on regularly, such as waste, roads and emergency services.

I am proud to know that Lanark Highland’s residents and staff have stepped up to the plate to face this challenge head on. I have the utmost confidence that we will get through this as a community.
